SMS Opt-In — How It Works

Compliance reference page · Last updated: July 4, 2026

This page documents exactly how Pickleball Pulse users opt in to SMS text-message notifications. It is provided as a public reference for carrier compliance review (Twilio A2P 10DLC).

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

What SMS Is Used For

Pickleball Pulse sends SMS for two purposes only:

  1. Phone verification (OTP): A 6-digit one-time passcode sent via Twilio Verify when you create an account or sign in. This is transactional and does not require SMS marketing consent.
  2. Session notifications: Reminders, cancellation notices, and host messages for open-play sessions you have joined. This is the service for which explicit opt-in consent is collected, described below.

We do not send marketing, promotional, or advertising SMS messages. SMS is only used to support pickleball sessions the user has explicitly joined.

Opt-In Path 1 — Guest RSVP Web Flow

When a non-member receives a session share link and taps “RSVP”, they complete a 3-step guest RSVP form on the web session page:

Guest RSVP form (web) — disclosure at the point of submission

Name, phone number, and RSVP details are entered above; the SMS disclosure appears directly above the submit button:

+1 (___) ___-____
Text me a verification code

See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. No mobile information will be shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Consent is disclosure-at-submission: the disclosure line above is rendered immediately above the RSVP submit button, and consent is recorded only when the guest completes the RSVP by verifying possession of the phone number with a 6-digit one-time passcode sent to it. The consent record stores the exact disclosure text shown, the date/time, the disclosure version, and the source of consent. Consent covers transactional session texts only (reminders, cancellations, host messages, waitlist updates) for sessions the guest RSVP'd to — a guest who does not want session texts can simply not submit the RSVP form, and can revoke consent at any time by replying STOP or using the “Remove my RSVP” option on the same page.

Opt-In Path 2 — In-App SMS Notifications (planned, not yet live)

A future app release will let registered members enable SMS notifications in the app (Settings > Notifications > SMS). This surface is not yet shipped — today, members receive session updates via push notifications only, and the only live SMS opt-in is the guest RSVP path above. When it ships, the consent screen will look like this:

In-App — Enable SMS Notifications

Get session updates by text

Receive reminders and cancellation notices for sessions you've joined — sent to the phone number on your account.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties for marketing purposes. See our Privacy Policy.

The consent checkbox will be unchecked by default. The user must actively check the box and tap “Enable” to consent. SMS remains disabled until they do. This page will be updated when the in-app path goes live.

What Happens After Opt-In

Opt-Out

Users can opt out at any time by:

After opting out, the user receives one confirmation message (“You have been unsubscribed from Pickleball Pulse SMS. No further messages will be sent. Reply START to re-subscribe.”) and no further session SMS. Phone verification OTPs are not affected by this opt-out.
